Regular readers of LFHW know that I am a great fan of dessert and all things sweet. Let’s be honest.. who isn’t? I know there’s nothing more pleasurable than a dessert that overwhelms your senses and leaves you feeling sweetly satisfied.
So when I was invited to see Le Doux Patisserie, of course, I leapt at the chance! I was pleasantly surprised to discover this gorgeous bakery and cake shop, which is located at Batu Bersurat, in the area of Happy Star and the same row as Red Canopy. Stepping inside, it was like Wonderland of cake and pastry!
Le Doux specialises in making authentic halal French desserts. Their lovely and friendly chef was trained in none other than the famous Le Cordon Bleu school of Culinary Arts. The meticulous details and artful design of the French art of pastry is evident in each of the beautiful cakes on display. I was even more amazed by the rows of petit fours, even spotting some of my favourites such as eclairs, profiteroles and mille feuille in the refrigerated cases. What’s even more amazing is how fresh all their products are. They start work daily at 5am to ensure that all you see in their cases is newly made that day.
Although they have been open for about a year, Le Doux’s reputation has preceded them, attracting customers from as far as Miri to order their specialty cakes. And it’s no wonder why, with their wonderful service; after booking a cake design, you get to sit for a tasting of different flavours, so that everything is as you wish.
What separates them from the rest is not only the authenticity of their products, but the determination to be different. Although many customers have approached them to do similar items like those already in the market, Le Doux maintains their originality and integrity by specialising in what they do best. I tried their Phoenix cake, which I believe was a strawberry and kiwi confection.. which really tickled my tastebuds with the contrast of tart and sweetness. Their tiramisu was soft and pillowy in the mouth, the coffee and chocolate cutting across the delicious caramel and sweet notes.. simply delightful! My next target is to try their macarons and profiteroles!
This year, they have come out with a line of specialty cookie hampers, decorated in gorgeous shades of lavender and green for Hari Raya. Prices for the hampers start at $48 and come with a variety of 6-10 cookies, depending on the hamper size.
If you’re looking for a lovely cake to be the centrepiece of your dessert table during your Open House, Le Doux would love to be able to serve you with one of their perfect confections. Even the pastes and purees, are made inhouse to ensure quality and that all their ingredients are halal.
Le Doux Patisserie is located at No. 1, Block C, Ground Floor, Sempurna Complex Jalan Batu Bersurat, Kampong Gadong, B.S.B. BE3519, Brunei Muara, Brunei Darussalam. You can call them for more info at +673 245 7722 or visit their website at www.ledoux.com.bn
Oh La la! Le macaron!
My favourite cake in the whole world is that Black Forest Gateau.. so I had to stop myself from climbing into the cake case and moving in with all these sweeties!
This cheesecake makes me want to weep of envy from its sheer beauty..
Mini Black Forest Gateaus! And friends!
On the left a fruit eclair, on the right.. Opera cake.. in the middle, I'm not sure.. but DOES IT NOT LOOK DIVINE???
A close look at one of the cookie hampers!
LOOK HOW PRETTY THEY ARE! It's a perfect gift for your boss, customer.. or even your favourite food writer... *wink, wink*
A display of cookies available.
This cake decoration which is nothing short of UH-MAY-ZING, was inspired by the customer's tudong for wedding. This picture seriously does not do justice to the display. I really suggest you visit the shop and see this with your very own eyes to appreciate how gorgeous it looks!
I really love how the colours of this are purple, blue and green. If you spend over a certain amount, Le Doux will even set up the custom display for your cake, as you see here!Add a comment
Fish & Co Brunei are promoting their ‘Sungkai’ Buffet ‘Citarasa Nelayan Antarabangsa’, or International Fisherman’s Buffet, throughout the month of Ramadhan. This is the first time for Fish & Co, and it was upon request of their customers, and you can bet they’re listening! Chef Kathy and her team are making up dishes to satisfy your cravings with a mouthwatering array of Local and International fusion Cuisine.
Okay, my first priority is the dessert table, so upon inspection I found it totally amazing! Not only they have lots of western desserts but also local favourites such as Seri Muka and Kuih Lapis. The Kek Batik available is also delish, and you can also make orders for it for raya as well!
Of course, the focus is on seafood, so you have their signature favourites such as Green Mussels in Garlic Lemon Butter sauce, grilled salmon head with 7 sauces and chilli pepper prawns, but if you are not a seafood lover, you can enjoy their roasted chicken in peri-peri sauce (I like! And it’s not that spicy, but has good flavor!) and black pepper beef. One of the highlights was the carvery grilled barramundi which was very very tasty! Please note, that the dishes do rotate, so what I listed may not necessarily be available.
I recommend that you book early to avoid disappointment. Buffet is priced at $25.95 for adults and $13.95 for kids, and there’s a 10% discount for RBC Dining Privelege Card members.
Fish & Co can be reached at 2392 666 or 8647 931.
The very epic dessert table! Gets an A from me!

Orchid Garden Hotel's ramadhan promotion is something to consider this month. Goldiana Cafe was buzzing tonight. With an Asian-International theme, a variety of stations set up and more than a 100 items served every night - my stomach and I were happy to have enjoyed it all.
Even before I could get to my seat, I was drawn right away by the soup mamak station; a mountain of different cuts of meats (kambing, beef and chicken) and the hearty broth boiling away. And right beside that was a on-the-spot-cooked-murtabak and ambuyat station! Ooh lala, I knew it was going to be a good night.
As I excitedly inspected the rest of the stations, I was pleased to see an apam balik stall. Finally, I get to satisfy some of my Penang food cravings! There were plenty of other stations as well - BBQ grilled, dim sum, sizzling plate noodles, ice kacang, pastries and an ice cream station.
Goldiana Cafe and Lounge's buffet promotion is priced at $26.80 for adults and $14.80 for children below 12 years old.
Heads up: there is a differently daily menu.
I made a beeline to this station to watch how it was made, and get it while it's still hot.
(Have it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Best.)
Tom yam noodles, made especially by a Thai chef.
Made for those who love it spicy.
Give me a bowl with everything in it. Mmm!
A local favourite!
That curry with that crispy-on-the-outside-and-
